Galactic Ice
Antarctica, 2014
I was captivated by the shape of this drifting ice sculpture, carved over time by Antarctica’s towering glaciers and ice shelves. Its delicate arches and snowy columns rested on a frozen bed of cerulean so bright it glowed through the dark waters. Icebergs like this one are ephemeral structures doomed to voyage until they finally slip down into the fathomless depths of the sea; an ephemeral spaceship drifting out to sea, equal parts “outer-space” and “inner-space.”
