Dancing in the Light

Bahamas, 2019

I carefully followed the movements of this endangered oceanic whitetip shark through the warm waters of the southern part of the Bahamas and waited for the light to dance across its skin, creating a mosaic-like reflection of the swirling surface above. At the core of photography is an artist’s ability to interpret and capture light, an endeavor that becomes much more difficult when one works in the ebb and flow of the sea. Particles of light bend, refract, and dissipate through the ocean's ever-changing depths in ways that seem to defy physics. It can make capturing the perfect shot next to impossible, especially when you combine this chaotic and beautiful light show with the quick and unpredictable behavior of marine life. After hours of treading water, the moment presented itself and I clicked the shutter.
