Spending time in the water with a family of sperm whales gave me a rare glimpse into their remarkably social lives. They played, traveled, and stayed in close contact through touch and sound, using clicks to communicate and navigate. Watching them care for and interact with one another was a powerful reminder of how complex whale societies are.
