All That Glitters
Bahamas, 2021
As the setting sun doused the islands in fiery gold, a flock of flamingos belted their joyful, if not a little off-key, chorus. Their honks and throaty chirps carried across the sparkling shallows to where I had waded out with my camera. When photographers talk about capturing the moment, we are not just freezing time in a two-dimensional capsule; we’re creating something that continues to evolve. That’s the difference between the pictures I snap and the ones I make where my subjects take on new life in an art print. In this moment, I felt an overpowering sense of awe for the beauty of the Bahamas and the stirrings of nostalgia. It was close to the end of our time working within the archipelago and I already missed it. But I also knew there would be more treasures like this sunset on the next voyage.
