A young Enga boy wearing a headdress fashioned from dyed chicken feathers waits for his turn to participate in the Mount Hagen Sing-sing, a much anticipated annual celebration for the highland cultures of Papua New Guinea. Much of the traditional attire found across the many different tribes of the highlands is interwoven with natural elements, from shells traded with lowland tribes, to bark cloth and mud masks. Who defines what is traditional? What is wild? What is beautiful? Finding a sense of “what is enough” is about creating a unique sense of identity and self-expression in harmony with the systems of our planet.
